Fanling Bypass Project – Enhancing Connectivity with Advanced Waterproofing Solutions

The Fanling Bypass is a major new infrastructure development in Hong Kong’s North District, designed to alleviate traffic congestion in Fanling and Sheung Shui. By providing an alternative route, the project significantly improves connectivity and reduces travel time, supporting smoother and more efficient transportation across the region.

As part of this critical project, GCP waterproofing solutions were selected for the bridge deck to ensure long-lasting protection and performance under demanding conditions. To meet the stringent requirements of bridge deck applications, a fully integrated waterproofing system was implemented.

The system begins with PA1 Primer, which offers strong penetration into the substrate and excellent adhesion, creating a reliable foundation for subsequent layers and ensuring optimal bonding throughout the system. This is followed by the application of Eliminator® Tropical Membrane, a cold-applied, rapid-curing PMMA waterproofing solution specifically designed for hot and humid climates. The membrane delivers seamless, fully bonded protection with outstanding crack-bridging capability, while also enabling fast and efficient installation on site.

To further enhance system performance, Bond Coat 3 was applied to strengthen interlayer adhesion and maintain system integrity. This additional layer plays a key role in ensuring long-term durability, particularly under continuous traffic loading and exposure to challenging environmental conditions.

Together, this high-performance waterproofing system provides superior resistance against water ingress, mechanical stress, and environmental factors. By safeguarding the structural integrity of the bridge deck, it helps extend the service life of this vital infrastructure.

Saint-Gobain is proud to contribute to the delivery of a more resilient and efficient transport network in Hong Kong, supporting sustainable urban development and improved mobility for the community.
