Advanced Construction Solutions Support the Central Kowloon Bypass Project

The Central Kowloon Bypass is one of Hong Kong’s most significant infrastructure projects, designed to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity between the eastern and western districts of Kowloon. Once completed, the bypass will play a vital role in improving traffic flow and supporting the city’s long term urban development.

The project comprises a complex combination of tunnel alignments and elevated structures, presenting considerable technical challenges. These include urban tunnelling constraints, effective waterproofing, leakage repair, and the need for durable structural systems capable of withstanding long term service conditions in a dense metropolitan environment.

To address these challenges, a range of high performance construction solutions were carefully selected and applied. GCP’s HA Cut CFL AF was used to carry out essential leakage repair works, while Silcor® 780 HI LP provided a reliable waterproofing system for tunnel sections, enhancing resistance against water ingress.

From Weber, weberbase easi render was applied to achieve durable and resilient wall finishes, while webergrout fine was utilised for fine grouting applications, supporting structural integrity and assisting with leak mitigation within critical areas of the project.

In addition, Fosroc’s Proofex Engage system was incorporated for basement waterproofing within BEM (Building, Electrical and Mechanical) works, ensuring a continuous and robust waterproofing barrier. Supercast SW20 waterstops were also installed at construction joints to prevent water migration, contributing to the long term performance and durability of the bypass structure.

The successful integration of innovative solutions from GCP, Weber, and Fosroc reflects a strong commitment to quality, reliability, and technical excellence in urban infrastructure development. The Central Kowloon Bypass stands as a testament to modern engineering practice, delivering lasting benefits for Hong Kong’s connectivity, resilience, and sustainable urban growth.
